Emergent Ventures is sponsoring slots in a China analysis course+ tweets on CHIPS, immigration, and think tank cover art
I’ll be hosting a ChinaTalk meetup in the Bay Area this Monday, August 1st. Respond to this email if you’re interested and I’ll send you the details.
A year ago on an episode of ChinaTalk I tried to peer pressure Manoj Kewalramani into making an online course on Open Source CCP research. Apparently, I planted a seed that blossomed into a real class!
Watching China is a new course that is specially designed to equip those aspiring to study and analyse China’s domestic and foreign policies with the skills that are essential to engage in such a task. The course is designed and will be conducted by Manoj Kewalramani, of the Takshashila Institution, a leading Indian think tank based in Bengaluru, and the author of the ‘Tracking People’s Daily’ newsletter.
Over a period of six weeks, Watching China will provide an introduction to the philosophy, structures and processes of the Leninist Party-state, discuss the role of ideology and familiarise students with the language of Communist Party discourse. Students will also be introduced to key analytical frameworks and China’s information ecosystem allowing them to undertake effective open source research.
The deadline to apply is August 2nd. Sessions will be held every Saturday, from August 6, 2022, to September 10, 2022, at 09:30 and 11:30 Indian Standard Time. They will be recorded for asynchronous watching as well.
For more information on the course structure, learning outcomes and application process, apply at https://school.takshashila.org.in/scc/scc-watching-china
The price comes out to $200 USD. I’ll be joining and hope to see you there too.
Emergent Ventures has generously offered to sponsor a few seats. If you get accepted into Manoj’s class and require financial support, reach out to me via LinkedIn or Twitter and we’ll hopefully be able to work something out. (Do note that receiving support will not make you an Emergent Ventures winner).

Everyone get yourself a copy of Kotkin’s masterful Uncivil Society: 1989 and the Implosion of the Communist Establishment.
Divyahsh,
You answered your own question? Why the US did not keep Erdal here in America.
"And while Huawei has produced one third of the 5G now operating around the world, the United States does not have a single major company competing in this race"
So, I think the problem here is much deeper than just, all the Americans are racist and want to keep the foreigners out. He probably would have had a great opportunity if he had found something Wall Street or some kind of financial shenanigans companies wanted to use in the Wall Street casino.
There were no companies that needed his expertise. We out sourced and neglected this type of industry years ago unfortunately.
